How to record a website

A screen recording of a website usually stutters: the page jumps by the steps of the scroll wheel, frames drop, and cookie banners and chat bubbles sit on top. A good recording scrolls at an even pace, slows down where there's something to see, and shows the site as it's meant to look. Recording the scroll itself, frame by frame, rather than the screen, is how. Here is how to do it with Kovo.

Open the site

In Kovo, type the address in the URL field and press Enter. The site opens on the canvas at the size you set with W and H: 1920 by 1080, a phone, or any size you like.

Hide what's in the way

Click a cookie banner, a chat bubble or a pop-up to hide it. Hold Alt to use the site itself, for example to accept a banner or open a menu before you record.

Set the stops

Scroll to where the video should be and press E: that's a marker. Kovo scrolls from one marker to the next, and holds at each one as long as you set.

Choose the speed

Each move into a marker can be faster or slower than the rest, and follow a curve: gentle, sharp, or one you paste in from After Effects, CSS or GSAP. Press Space to play it back.

Export

Export saves the video at 1x or 2x, at any size up to 8K, without a watermark. Turn on Marker file to get every marker's time with it, for editing the video later.

Questions

What's the best way to record a website?

Record the scroll, not the screen. An app that scrolls the page itself and renders it frame by frame gives an even, smooth video at any size, which a screen recorder can't. That's what Kovo does.

How do I record a website without it stuttering?

Let the recorder do the scrolling. Scrolling by hand while a screen recorder runs gives uneven steps and dropped frames; Kovo moves the page between your markers at the speed and curve you set, every frame accounted for.

Can I record a whole website, top to bottom?

Yes. Put markers down the page, from the top to the bottom, and Kovo scrolls through all of them in one video.

Can I record a website without a watermark?

Yes. Kovo exports without a watermark, at any size up to 8K.

Can I record a website in 4K or 8K?

Yes. Set the size with W and H, and export at 2x for up to 8K.

Can I record a website at phone size?

Yes. Pick a device size, or type any width and height, and the site opens at that size.

Does it work on Windows and Mac?

Kovo runs on Windows 10 and 11, and on macOS 13 or later.

Can an AI app make the recording for me?

Yes. Switch on AI access in Kovo, and Claude, Cursor and other AI apps can set up and export the video through it.
