How to export a website video in 4K or vertical
Published
A website video has two sizes that matter: the size the site is shown at, which decides its layout, and the size of the video file, which decides how sharp it is. Recording a site at 3840 pixels wide would show its desktop layout tiny; recording it at a normal size and rendering every frame at twice the pixels gives a real 4K video of the layout people actually see. The same goes for vertical video, at three times. Here is how to do both in Kovo.
For 4K: show the site at Full HD
Pick Full HD, 1920 by 1080, so the site shows its usual desktop layout.
Export at 2x
Click Export and choose 2x. The export box shows the size you'll get: 3840 by 2160, a 4K UHD video. Every frame is rendered at twice the pixels, so text and edges are sharp, not scaled up.
For vertical: pick the Story size
Choose Story · Reels · TikTok, 360 by 640. Narrow sizes open the site as a phone, with touch and its mobile layout, the way people will see it on their own phone.
Export at 3x
Phone sizes export at 3x to start: the Story size comes out as 1080 by 1920, the size Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikTok expect. The iPhone and Pixel sizes give taller, phone-shaped videos the same way.
Save it
Every video is an MP4 at 60 frames a second. Save it anywhere; Kovo writes it under a temporary name and only puts it in place when it's done, so a cancelled export never overwrites a file.
Questions
What resolution is a 4K website video?
3840 by 2160 pixels, four times Full HD. In Kovo that's the Full HD size exported at 2x.
What's the best size for a website video on Reels or TikTok?
1080 by 1920, vertical, 9:16. In Kovo, pick Story · Reels · TikTok and export at 3x.
Why not just record at 3840 by 2160?
A site shown 3840 pixels wide switches to its widest layout and everything looks small. Showing it at 1920 by 1080 and exporting at 2x keeps the layout people see and doubles the detail.
How big is a 4K website video file?
Up to about 450 MB a minute at 4K, and about 100 MB a minute at Full HD. Plain, still pages come out smaller.
What frame rate does Kovo export at?
60 frames a second, always, so the scroll stays smooth on any screen.
My computer says it can't render the size. What now?
Very large sizes need a capable graphics card. Try a smaller size or scale; Full HD at 2x is the 4K most platforms play anyway.
