How to hide cookie banners in a screen recording
Published
Almost every site opens with a cookie banner, and many add a chat bubble, a newsletter pop-up or a sticky promo bar. In a recording they cover the work. Clicking Accept to get rid of them is a choice you may not want to make for a client's site, and a screen recorder can't hide them at all. Kovo hides them without answering them. Here is how.
Open the site in Kovo
Type the address in the URL field and press Enter. Cookie banners are hidden as the page opens: Kovo recognises the common consent tools, like OneTrust, Cookiebot, Didomi, Usercentrics, Quantcast, CookieYes, Iubenda, Osano, Complianz, TrustArc, Axeptio, Klaro, Borlabs and Finsweet, and the banners of Shopify, HubSpot, Squarespace and Wix sites.
Check for a site's own banner
A banner a site built itself is found too, by what it says and the buttons on it, in many languages. If a banner had locked the page so it couldn't scroll, Kovo lets it scroll again.
Hide everything else that's in the way
For a chat bubble, a pop-up, a sticky bar or a badge, hold Alt+Shift (Option+Shift on a Mac) and move over the site: what's under the pointer gets a red outline. Scroll up to pick the box it sits in instead, and down to go back. Click to hide it.
Check every page
What you hide stays hidden on every page of the video, from its first frame, in the preview and in the export. The URL field says how many things are hidden; click it to show them all again.
Accept, if you'd rather
Some sites show different content once you've chosen. To answer a banner yourself, hold Alt and click its button: the site remembers, and the export shows it as you left it.
Questions
Does Kovo accept the cookies when it hides a banner?
No. It hides the banner without accepting or refusing anything. If you want to answer it, hold Alt and click its button yourself.
Which cookie banners does Kovo hide?
Those of the common consent tools, including OneTrust, Cookiebot, Didomi, Usercentrics, Quantcast, CookieYes, Iubenda, Osano, Complianz, TrustArc, Axeptio, Klaro, Borlabs, Sourcepoint and Finsweet, the banners of Shopify, HubSpot, Squarespace and Wix sites, and sites' own banners in many languages.
How do I hide a chat widget in a recording?
Hold Alt+Shift, point at the chat bubble and click. It stays hidden on every page of the video.
The banner is gone but the page won't scroll. What now?
Kovo unlocks the scroll a cookie banner leaves behind. If something else still blocks it, hold Alt+Shift and click the layer covering the page to hide it.
Can I bring something back after hiding it?
Yes. Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) to undo the last hide, or click the hidden count in the URL field to show everything again.
Can I hide a cookie banner with an ordinary screen recorder?
Not without changing the page: you'd have to click Accept or use a browser extension that blocks the banner. Kovo hides banners in its own recording, without either.
